Ebook Becoming Boston Strong One Woman Race to Run and Conquer the World Greatest Marathon eBook Amy Noelle Roe
Named One of the "Best Nonfiction Books to Read in 2019" by Woman's Day
It’s 2004 and twentysomething Amy Noelle Roe is living by herself in Portland, Oregon, with few friends, little money, and no job. It’s not her year. With lots of free time on her hands, she remembers watching the Boston Marathon years ago and, inspired by that memory, decides to join a marathon training group, hoping that running 26.2 miles will give her something show for an otherwise entirely unproductive time in her life. A few months later, she crosses the finish line but is far from a Boston qualifying-time.
But Amy has caught the marathon bug, and is determined to qualify for Boston, even if it’s just as a squeaker, a runner who just manages a BQ time. Eleven marathons later, and Amy finally squeaks by, signing up for the 2011 Boston Marathon. She completes it, qualifying again for the following year, and then again for 2013, the fated year of the Boston Marathon Bombing. Due to an injury, Amy crosses the 2013 finish line in a little over four hours, minutes before the bombs goes off. Her world is forever changed as she is shaken to her core.
Becoming Boston Strong is Amy’s journey of falling in love with the Boston Marathon and its community, for better or for worse. It chronicles the ups and downs of her training, delving into the mystical appeal of the greatest marathon in the world and how it attracts those who return to it year after year.
Hilarious and heartfelt, Becoming Boston Strong is for every person who ever dreamed of belonging to something bigger than themselves.

Becoming Boston Strong One Woman Race to Run and Conquer the World Greatest Marathon eBook Amy Noelle Roe Reviews
- Amy is a talented writer and I loved her honesty and wit in the book. If you enjoy running books, this one is a great read and will give you some good history and facts along with inspiration! If you've run Boston, Amy will make you feel like you're back on the course hearing the Wellesley screams and running the Newton Hills.
- This book is such a delightful read, it reminds me that pursuit of goals (even audacious ones) begins with putting one foot in front of the other. We all start somewhere and get ourselves where we want to be by pushing ourselves towards the goal and if we're lucky getting the help from people who help us be a better version of ourselves in the process. While running is often thought of as a solitary sport, this book accurately reveals that like most process of excellence, qualifying for Boston takes a village.
It is an inspiring read for anyone working towards their goal especially those working on their BQ! - The book opens in the middle of the Boston Marathon bombing. I was just going to flip through it-- I bought it for my wife, who wants to qualify for Boston-- but reading that, I got hooked too. The author's story of taking up distance running to get herself through a bad patch is fast-paced and entertaining. She ends up getting more and more obsessed with it and even when she seems to be going overboard, you root for her. I enjoyed how she included history of the race with her own experiences. I think it would appeal to anyone who's interested in endurance sports and trying to get the most out of themselves.
- Do yourself a favor and buy, then read this book. It is human and emotional and gripping and sometimes hilarious. It brings the story of the Boston Marathon bombing to life from the perspective of one runner among the thousands of runners who were there that day. This book gives voice to the fierce determination and resilience of the Boston Marathon runners.
It’s also a story for anyone who has considered running around the block and decided it was too hard. For anyone who has ever dreamed of running a marathon, then dreamed of running THE Boston Marathon. It’s a beautifully told story for everyone who has ever had a dream. - This is the first time I’ve found myself simultaneously clapping and laughing out loud, while curled up with a good book. With great humor and wit, Amy takes you along with her as she pursues her personal and athletic goals. Against the historical background of the Boston Marathon, we experience the joys and “heartbreaks†familiar to anyone who follows their dreams. “Becoming Boston Strong†is not only a story of one woman’s “love of the gameâ€, it is a roadmap of perseverance.
