On the day before her Amish parents' 20th wedding anniversary, Sylvia Miller stumbles across the key to the old brass tinderbox her father keeps in his Lancaster County watch repair shop. Piqued by curiosity, Sylvia unlocks the cherished heirloom, not realizing that what she is about to discover will splinter apart her happy life.Â
Once Sylvia overcomes her shock, she confronts her father about the contents of the box. To her amazement, the respected convert to the Old Order admits that he is not fit to be a member of the Hickory Hollow Amish church - in fact, he never was.Â
Burdened by the weight of his deception, Earnest Miller reveals the details about his past to Sylvia - and to his wife, Rhoda. The long-kept secret alters everything for the close-knit family, and when word of Earnest's deceit reaches others in the community, the truth pits Amish neighbors against one another and threatens to dry up Earnest's livelihood - as well as to break up Sylvia's engagement to the preacher's grandson.Â
Can the Millers find a way forward through the turmoil to a place of forgiveness and acceptance?

"I was a little disappointed with the first half of this book. I found it irritating that the characters would not confront each other with the truth and come clean, so to speak. Maybe I'm just the kind of person who wants to get the pain over with quickly and move on, but the whole premise seemed unrelatable. I was won over in the second half though."

The Tinderbox Audible Audio Edition Beverly Lewis Stina Nielsen Recorded Books Books Reviews
- Oh wow wow!! Another blockbuster book for Beverly Lewis!! Oh my!!
Lots of action a d surprises in this Amish book! Not your normal Amish book for sure!!
This is why I love Beverly Lewis!!
The only thing I have to say is never open Pandora's box even if curiosity kills a cat!! And though there are lessons to be learned in this book!!
I'm happy to see Ella Mae is still a part of Hickory Holllow!! I just loved her and her wise ways!! I hope when I get her age I will have gained some wisdom from life's experiences.
There's one thing I can't stand is a bossy man!! Even if his mother is involved. My husband tried that on me and it didn't work. Now, most of the time we work together as a team as long as his mom isn't involved!
I truly loved this story and I would strongly recommend this book!!
I received a complimentary copy with no compensations received. All opinions are my own!! - Finally she is back to her style. The last two books were so boring. This one is great. The people are well defined and likable. The story is very good. I did not want to put it down. Thank you Beverly for this lovely book. I will read again.
- Beverly has given us another wonderful story from Lancaster County, a place I visit often.
It begins with the Miller family and tells of their busy and happy life. As the story moves along there are many twists and turns that lead to the father, Earnest, confessing to a sin from his past. His revelation almost breaks his family apart. As they work to rebuild their family unit, another shocking event tests their faith even further. I eagerly await the sequel to be released in September, 2019. - I was looking forward to reading this novel, had I known it was a two book story I might have waited to order it.
The book was well written and the characters interesting. I enjoyed reading it from the first paragraph. Then again of all the other authors who write Amish novels, Beverly Lewis's is the best writer. Her stories seem more detailed. - Just finished reading The Tinder Box and wish we didn't have to wait for the sequel to come out. September seems pretty far away. This book was particularly good - focuses not only on Sylvian and her beau - but also gives much time to Sylvia's father and mother and the effects of the truth on their relationship and how they struggle through everything the truth stirs up. And what a twist at the end! I was really glad that Mrs. Lewis gave much time to Sylvia's father and mother and focused on their relationship and troubles and working through their problems. Can't wait til September!

- What a wonderful example of life, it's challenges, and God's grace and support. Truly loved this story. I could feel each of the characters emotions and their feelings; I could relate to how they were feeling - could totally engage with them.
- I love to read her books. While there is romance there are no sexual references. The story line keeps you on your toes. I couldn't wait to finish the book. I am looking forward to her next book that appears to be a continuum.
