Benjamin Willson and Charlotte Elizabeth Ross fall in love with one another amid the American Revolution, forming a bond that cannot be shattered by death—or time. The Battle of Johnstown tears them apart with one vicious, indifferent musket ball, but the two souls will find their way back to one another over two hundred and thirty-three years later as Ben Wilson and Charlotte Elizabeth Ross the Second. As the two reunited lovers share memories of their lives so long ago, they unearth a journal that belonged to the son they created just before Benjamin fell. Expecting to learn his story in the pages of his book, they are unprepared to learn that it is a tribute to his stepfather, Jacob Cooper. Jacob had loved Charlotte since childhood, but the first time he saw her with Benjamin he knew any dream he’d ever had of claiming her for his own was hopeless. Worse, Jacob genuinely liked and respected Benjamin so he accepted his fate, although still tormented to see the two of them together. But when Benjamin’s life drained away on a cold and lonely battlefield, Jacob stepped in to help Charlotte pick up the pieces of her shattered soul. He knew Charlotte would never love him as she loved Benjamin, yet he married her, took on the role of father to Benjamin’s son, and raised the boy to understand the precious gift of his heritage—and freedom. Ben and Charlotte become lost in the words of their son from the past as they learn about the torch that Jacob Cooper carried for his only love, and what it means to keep Liberty’s Promise.

  • I love this book. I love the characters and events in this book. I highly recommend it for your reading.
  • I like it.
  • Great book.
  • I was blessed to be offered an advance copy of Liberty's Promise for an honest review, and I just finished it. In 24 hours, I might add. I'll admit, I was nervous about this book. I adored Whispers of Liberty and had to wait a looooong time for this book to come out. So I had built it up pretty big in my head. How could it be as good as Charlotte and Benjamin's love story? I was blown away. I thought it was better than Charlotte and Benjamin's story. It felt more realistic of the time period and how many people married out of necessity after losing a husband to war. I fell in love with Jacob, who was honorable and kind and brave. I doubt many people today would be able to marry the woman they loved wholeheartedly, knowing she loved someone else. That they would be fighting with the ghost of someone's memory. But Jacob did. I loved that I got to 'know' Jacob. His character was really fleshed out, maybe even more so than Benjamin's was. The only issue I had was that Benjamin, the son, was writing this story as part of a diary. This is a story he's heard many times before. But some of the things he knew about seemed like things a father wouldn't tell his son. Private parts of the life he shares with his wife. I understand that we as the reader needed that background information to fully understand how the relationship between Charlotte and Jacob evolves. It just seemed a little unbelievable that people in colonial America would be so open about private matters. I don't want to give any spoilers, And believe me, it's hard not to. So I think I'll just go reread Liberty's Promise one more time. Buy this book. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and when does the next book come out?? Write fast!!
